Making Learning Fun!
About Abingdon Dyslexia Tutor
Hello, my name is Rebecca Gouws and I am a specialist teacher accredited by the British Dyslexia Association. I hold a Level 5 Certificate in Dyslexia: Literacy, Support and Intervention.
I have worked as a Deputy SENDCo. and a cover teacher in both mainstream and specialist SEN schools, to support children and young people to achieve success in their learning.
Spending over 20 years working as an Accountant I decided to have a complete career change. I became interested in understanding how children learn, particularly those who have learning difficulties and disabilities. I realised that the traditional style of teaching used in the classroom does not work for all children. I began to develop teaching practices that were based on multi-sensory learning, to include games and discovery learning but mostly to have fun! I am trained in using the Kelly and Phillips program and the Sound Reading System to help your child achieve success in reading, spelling, writing and comprehension. I believe in empowering students with the study skills and learning strategies they need to achieve success in learning and life and to improve their self-esteem and confidence.
1:1 Tuition
All lessons are meticulously planned and prepared to suit the individual learner. Adjusting to different personalities and specific academic needs, my aim is to make learning fun!
Lessons are delivered in a designated learning space in my home.
All materials are provided.
SATs Preparation
I can support your child to prepare for the KS2 SAT’s tests in spelling, punctuation, grammar and reading and writing.
All lessons are carefully planned to support the KS2 SATS assessments.
School Support
As a specialist teacher, I am able to conduct informal, curriculum-based assessments and deliver specialist teaching programmes to learners with SpLD/dyslexia up to, and including, 18 years of age.
Dyslexia Screening Service
Suitable for learners from 7 to 16 years of age.
A number of assessments are undertaken to look for indicators of Dyslexia. The assessment includes reading, spelling and writing activities and you will be provided with a report to identify particular difficulties your child may have, and some information regarding appropriate teaching strategies.
Please note this is not a diagnostic assessment and where screening indicates a probability of dyslexic difficulties a full diagnostic assessment would be recommended.
Summer School - Reception/Foundation Students
Summer School places available to students moving into Primary School. Would you like to give your child a head-start in learning to read and write? Following the National Curriculum Standards and using games, puzzles, outdoor and messy play to teach your child the fundamentals of reading and writing.
Summer School
For children aged 5 to 12 years who would like a little extra support in reading, comprehension, spelling and writing. Using games, puzzles, play and more traditional learning methods, your child can have fun whilst learning.
Get in Touch
I believe all children have individual talents and abilities and I pride myself on getting to know my students to understand how they learn and what they enjoy. Learning should be fun and I support and encourage each student to overcome their challenges and difficulties to achieve their learning goals.
